Incredible Edible
Todmorden
July 2010
Not so much a garden as a wonderful idea that has been taken up with
enthusiasm.in Todmorden. Some unutilised areas of the town have been
put to use growing edible items of fruit and vegetables, raised beds
have been constructed and in many cases have been adopted and cared for
by teenagers. In many cases there are expalnatory notes on
the
beds giving an indication of what is going on and who is looking after
the beds. Call in at the tourist information office for a map showing
the locations of some of the beds. Probably the largest area can be
found at the Ferney Lee where part of the grassy area at the geriatric
care centre has been converted to raised beds and a number of fruit
trees have been planted. Also have a look at the health centre where
various fruit trees and bushes have ben planted in the car park. My own
favourite example is the compacted white lamestone yard has three beds
constructed withe green of the beds contrasting nicely with the white
limestone ground they are standing on.
